Munich (Germany), March 24, 2017 – commercetools, a leading true cloud commerce platform for next-generation commerce, has been included in The Forrester Wave™: B2C Commerce Suites, Q1 2017 for the first time as a contender. In the latest update of its research report, the independent research firm states agility and faster time-to-market as one of the areas that firms are investing in. It points out that cloud-based, service-oriented architectures that implement commerce solutions in a more modern and modular fashion are now must-haves within commerce suites. commercetools received the highest scores possible in three criteria, including its Microservices and service-oriented architecture. The Forrester report states that the next-generation commerce technology provider is a “good fit for firms looking to innovate on commerce” with the highest score possible for total cost of ownership.

The research firm furthermore points out that today’s commerce platforms need to support omnichannel engagement, including models such as “buy online and pick up in store” demanded by 81% of whom Forrester calls “digital pioneers” today(1).  In the current offering category, emerging mobile touchpoints was one of several commerce capability-related focus areas in the evaluation. commercetools received the highest possible score for this criterion, as well as a 3 out of 5 for mobile application development and digital stores criteria, the latter score indicating the platform supports endless aisle and omnichannel fulfillment capabilities within a reference clienteling application. Customers consulted by Forrester for this research report emphasized that commercetools is “particularly strong at innovative use cases, like conversational and social commerce, so that a client can “plug in” newer commerce features that are independent of the front-end interface.”

Realizing innovative concepts for new front-end interfaces such as conversational or social commerce is also a driver for headless commerce, one of the primary ways to purchase commerce capabilities uncovered by Forrester in this research report. As a headless commerce solution, commercetools focuses on an API-first approach as the lowest common denominator to connect a growing ecosystem of new devices and touchpoints, without the attached custom-development of individual apps for each of them. Furthermore, the platforms 300+ smart APIs also enable seamless integration with specialized systems such as a sophisticated web CMS in the backend.

Dirk Hoerig, CEO of commercetools, comments: We would like to thank everybody who has helped make our company and our commerce platform reach this important milestone. We believe commerce as we know it is changing and are happy to be recognized as a commerce technology provider that is at the heart of this change: We have many exciting things on our roadmap to help our customers grow and shape the next generation of commerce.”
