Munich (Germany), June 6, 2016 – commercetools today announced that Cimpress (Nasdaq: CMPR), the world leader in mass customization, has chosen its e-commerce solution. The solution will play a role as a central hub for many commerce-related functions, initially for some of the company’s Upload and Print portfolio of businesses. commercetools handles client-specific e-commerce demands in real-time, including a shopping cart and order management, dynamic pricing, and information management to enable customer analytics.

The extensive interfaces (APIs) of the commercetools platform will enable seamless integration into the existing Cimpress technology landscape, including its mass customization platform and manufacturing and supply chain technologies. The first go-live is planned for fall 2017, after which Cimpress intends to begin a roll-out across many of its Upload and Print brands.

Over twenty years ago, Cimpress revolutionized the market for personalized printing by making high quality, professional products available in small quantities at affordable prices. Today, the Dutch company has grown into a global corporation with annual revenues of about USD $2 billion.

Cimpress’ Upload and Print businesses are currently rearchitecting their e-commerce technology stack to improve the customer experience and enable more rapid and flexible new product introduction. Part of this effort includes integrating third-party e-commerce standard technologies where possible, which should improve the speed of development, lower maintenance costs, and enable Cimpress’ engineers to focus on developing proprietary technologies that drive their competitive advantages. commercetools will enable Cimpress’ Upload and Print businesses to better manage the complexities inherent in offering personalized products to its customers. With commercetools, Cimpress’ Upload and Print businesses can administer a wide variety of product and catalog data, such as formats, paper quality, paper consistency and coloring, across all sales channels. The cloud-based technology is scalable, which suits Cimpress’ needs for use across multiple brands.

“The selection process was thorough and very intensive. We opted for the commercetools solution because of its API first principle and scalability,” said Abhishek Dwivedi, Senior Director Technology, Cimpress’ Upload and Print Business Units. “We were impressed by the flexibility of their microservices and underlying APIs, the complex data modeling and the comprehensive options for individual pricing. In addition, the commercetools corporate philosophy, which views digitization as a strategic approach instead of just a technical tool, is a good fit for us.”

“Cimpress’ selection of commercetools for its Upload and Print businesses is a real milestone in our company’s development,” adds Udo Rauch, CSO of commercetools. “Digital disruption is revolutionizing entire industries. Its fundamental benefit lies in the opportunity to convert the wishes and needs of individual clients into perfectly fitting business models. This is demonstrated, for example, by the growing number of companies that have been successful with highly personalized products. That is where our solution unfolds its full strength: we are able to help with the flexible implementation of such concepts.”
