As such, the process will look different depending on the position and location to which you are applying. The goal is to create a quick, painless, and extremely positive recruitment experience for everyone involved. You’re not a fan of not knowing what comes next? No worries, our Talent Acquisition Managers are your trusted partners every step of the way to keep you informed about the next steps.

FAQ EMEA/APAC

General topics

How can I apply?

Just visit our Career Page, select the job that best meets your skills and preferences and click the “APPLY” button. On the following page you will be asked to complete a form with your data and upload your CV/resume, with the option to add a cover letter, certifications, or links. For Engineering positions, please include a link to your public profile (Github, Stackoverflow, etc.) with some code samples. For Design positions, we would love to take a look at your portfolio. You will also need to accept the data privacy statement – and then the process can begin.

Which application formats do you prefer?

Please use PDF when you upload your documents. At commercetools we only accept online applications. Attachment size per file should not exceed 25MB.

I’m not a citizen of the countries where commercetools office is – can I apply for a job anyway?

For abroad candidates who wish to work in one of our German entities, we do offer visa sponsorship and would love to welcome you! Currently, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for our other entities (the Netherlands, the UK, Singapore, Australia, and Switzerland). A legal working visa is a prerequisite in the above mentioned countries.

We can support you for the EU blue card application in the Netherlands if you have all the prerequisites.

In which languages should my application be?

We strongly recommend that you apply in English. For positions that require German competency, feel free to submit your application in German.

Is there a screening call with the Talent Acquisition Managers?

Yes, our Talent Acquisition Manager will contact you if your previous experience matches the requirements of the position to arrange an initial screening call. In this 30-minute call we would like to learn more about your previous experience and your motivation to work for commercetools. We are also happy to take the time to answer any questions you may have about the position, the company, and the next steps of the process.

Are there any assessments, presentations, or coding tests required?

It depends on the position:

Tech positions

Most of the time, we will ask you to complete a short coding task that can be done within a few hours. We appreciate quality over speed and will, therefore, give you enough time to complete the task at home so you don't have to rush. For certain positions within the tech department, a coding task is not required. However, your Talent Acquisition Manager will make sure that you are well-informed on what to expect.

Customer-facing positions

Many of our customer-facing positions will require creating and presenting a presentation of your choice to a panel of interviewers.

All other roles

Depending on the nature of the position, we might ask you to complete a small task related to the nature of the role.

What should I wear for a F2F or virtual interview?

Officially, we do not have a dress code; we encourage you to be yourself. Wear anything that makes you comfortable so that you can feel your best during the interview. For sales-related or customer-facing positions, we ask you to dress as you would for a meeting with a customer.

Students

What does commercetools offer to students?

You can contribute to the future of eCommerce and make an impact even as a student! Be prepared to be thrown into the deep-end, but don’t worry, we will give you a life jacket! We see our students as fully-valued team members. We know that additional experience outside of the lecture hall will be of great use to you, and that’s why we offer you the playground to sharpen your craft. On top of that you will have the opportunity to work with an international team full of open-minded individuals who are passionate about their work, take advantage of our flexible working hours (we know what it is like to prepare for an exam), fresh fruit, and coffee every day. Most importantly, we offer fair compensation for your work.

Is it possible to gain full-time employment after my time as a working student?

Depending on our yearly headcount planning, we would love to offer our best and brightest working students full-time employment. In fact, many of our current team members started as working students and decided to stay with us after getting their degrees.

Does commercetools offer support with my visa process?

For our German entities, we have experts inside and outside the company helping ensure a smooth visa process for  future employees. Our relocation agency will assist with and support the application procedures for visas and work permits globally. They coordinate and manage the process with the relevant authorities on your behalf.

For our Dutch entity we can support you with a EU blue-card application if you qualify for it.

For other entities, we unfortunately cannot offer visa sponsorship at the moment.

How does the onboarding process work?

We have a structured onboarding process that will guide you through your first few months as a commercetooler (up to your probation period). On your first day, when starting at one of our offices, you will take an office tour and learn from a “ready-to-work” HR onboarding, which will give you detailed information about our culture and how we work. Afterwards, you will get to know your team members and supervisor, as well as your mentor, who will be supporting you on a technical level. Your buddy will integrate you into our company culture and values. When you start remotely, you will receive your hardware via delivery before your first day so you are ready to roll on your first morning. You will receive an online HR onboarding session with our People Ops department and afterwards will have a few video calls with your supervisor as well as your teammates. You will also have a video call with your buddy, who is there for you for all questions you may have that are not directly related to your work.

During your first weeks, you will have several onboarding sessions with our founders, C-level executives, and other colleagues from different departments to get a strong overview of our company vision, our technical mission, our product, the landscape of commerce software, and much more!

Can I also work part-time, remote, or as a freelancer?

Part-time: Possibly, as long as the workload of the position can be achieved within a part-time arrangement. Please reach out to us so we can discuss in more detail.

Remote: Remote work is possible depending on the role as well as your location. Please reach out to us so we can discuss the option of working remotely in your case.

Freelancer: Unfortunately, we do not hire freelancers. At commercetools freelancing is a temporary solution until the visa process is completed.
