commercetools' ESG program

We commercetoolers don't just build outstanding shopping experiences — we also lead the charge for positive change in our world. So, let's dive into our unwavering commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) values, dissecting how each pillar forms the backbone of our vision for a better and more sustainable future.

Our vision: Boldly striving for a better world

As leaders in digital commerce technology, we recognize our unique position to power the evolution of commerce innovation while championing positive change. Our goal is clear: To use our platform, products and resources to empower positive and sustainable transformation. This commitment extends beyond mere rhetoric, with concrete actions and ambitious goals aimed at making a significant contribution to net zero emissions, (e)waste reduction and the decrease of fossil fuel consumption.

We envision a future where commerce not only thrives technologically but also coexists harmoniously with the environment and society. We believe in setting the standard for responsible business practices, ensuring that our impact leaves the world in a better position than when we first embarked on this journey.

Pillar 1: Environmental sustainability

One of the keystones of our sustainability efforts is environmental consciousness. We not only commit to being "net-zero" but also embrace a comprehensive approach to environmental initiatives and support efforts. This includes optimizing energy balance, reducing waste output and minimizing business travel. Importantly, we are dedicated to achieving positive outcomes in areas where a complete reduction is challenging due to technological limitations, essential operational needs or external dependencies.

We realize that true sustainability requires not just meeting minimal requirements but going above and beyond. By fostering a culture of innovation and responsibility, we aim to inspire not only its team members but also partners, customers and the entire industry to prioritize the planet.

Pillar 2: Social responsibility

Acknowledging the profound impact our actions have on society, we take social responsibility seriously. Our workplace culture is a testament to this commitment, as we foster diversity, equality, equity and inclusivity. Every member of the global team is encouraged to feel valued and empowered, contributing to the positive change we aim to be in the world. Through social sustainability endeavors, including partnering with organizations such as Treedom and Everwave, we strive to play an ongoing role in the betterment of global communities.

In the dimension of social responsibility, we understand that true impact goes beyond business transactions. It involves creating an environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can thrive — and where everyone has an equal opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Our commitment to social responsibility extends beyond their products; it shapes the very fabric of our corporate culture.

Pillar 3: Governance excellence

Compliance and legal adherence are the cornerstones of our sustainability policy. We're dedicated to complying with all applicable national and international laws, rules and regulations. Understanding that sustainability requires resilience, we incorporate these principles into product development, safety and business continuity efforts. With ambitious goals set in line with governance excellence, we aim to take a leadership role in a more sustainable future together with our customers.

Within the domain of governance, we believe in setting the gold standard for ethical business practices. We understand that true sustainability requires a robust foundation of governance excellence, ensuring transparency, accountability and integrity in every facet of our operations. By doing so, we not only meet legal obligations but exceed them, setting a precedent for responsible business conduct.
