commercetools Promotes Kelly Goetsch To Be Organization’s First Chief Strategy Officer
Following its significant growth over the last year, commercetools promotes veteran product leader to drive and execute overall portfolio strategy
MUNICH (Germany), May 12, 2022 – commercetools, the leader in digital commerce and inventor of headless commerce, today announced it has promoted Kelly Goetsch to be the company’s first Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). Having served as Chief Product Officer (CPO) of commercetools for nearly six years, Goetsch and his team were responsible for building out commercetools’ flagship product, and now as he steps into this new position, Goetsch will play a key role in building out the company’s portfolio strategy, as well as guiding overarching corporate and product strategies.

Having evolved into a multi-product company in 2021 with the acquisition of the composable frontend platform Frontastic (now commercetools Frontend) and the introduction of commercetools for Growth in early 2022, Goetsch’s new role as CSO will be integral to continuing to build out the commercetools portfolio beyond core commerce. Goetsch is an industry thought-leader who champions commercetools’ unique MACH (Microservices, API, Cloud-Native, and Headless)-based architecture, and co-founded the MACH Alliance, a group of 58 independent, future-thinking tech companies dedicated to advocating for open, best-of-breed technology ecosystems.
With more than 15 years of experience, Goetsch has been responsible for overseeing product management, product development, and large implementations. While at Oracle, he led product management for the company’s microservices initiatives, and prior to that role, he was a senior architect at ATG (acquired by Oracle), where he was instrumental in numerous large-scale implementations, including overseeing Walmart’s global implementation of the technology. As a thought-leader in the industry, Goetsch is chairman of the MACH Alliance and a board member of the National Retail Federation’s Associate Member Council. He’s also the author of four O’Reilly-published books discussing the intersection of commerce and technology.
Following the hypergrowth the company saw in 2021–reaching unicorn status, increasing its employee headcount by 53% year-over-year, and adding new clients including Lululemon, L.L. Bean, Sephora and DirecTV, among many others—commercetools has been off to a strong start in 2022, introducing commercetools for Growth to its portfolio, and bringing on its first Chief Marketing Officer Jen Jones to help grow the brand. This year, commercetools is focused on continuing to expand its robust product portfolio through development and acquisition, global expansion, rapid hiring, and adding new partnerships.
