Welcoming Andrew Burton as Our New CEO

I’m proud to announce a new era in commercetools history. Starting today, I welcome Andrew Burton as our chief commercetooler (CEO)! As co-founder of commercetools, I will continue to serve on the commercetools Board and also transition into a new role as Chief Innovation Officer, where I will focus on building customer and partner relationships, product innovation and corporate thought leadership. 

This might surprise some of you, but for me this next phase in our growth has always been part of my long-term vision. In March, I shared how proud I am of everything that we have accomplished as a business in the past 18 months, despite challenging economic headwinds in that same and previous periods. My favorite part of being a founder has always been the energy around building something new, innovative, and necessary for businesses to thrive. I have always loved the scrappiness, deep tech focus, and iterating on product innovation to meet customer needs. 

When I conceptualized commercetools, there was nothing like it in the market. There was no existing technology to allow eCommerce businesses to quickly respond to rapidly evolving customer behavior or new digital touchpoints like VR, smartphones, and tablets.

Recognizing this shift was the light bulb moment for me and the founding team. Building commercetools, with its cloud-native, component-based, tech-agnostic, composable commerce platform, was more fun than I could have imagined. Our impact will only continue to grow with Andrew at this pivotal moment. It is time for the next chapter in our growth, and I could not be more excited about what is to come.

Andrew is a proven technology executive with strong operational expertise in driving growth, scale, and customer impact. Before commercetools, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Rapid7 (NASDAQ: RPD), focusing on global sales, customer engagement, engineering, and IT functions. He has a passion for building brands and communicating the value they deliver to customers. This expertise makes him a perfect fit for commercetools as we continue on our journey to deliver the future of eCommerce. 

I am incredibly proud of the commercetoolers, past and present, who believe in our mission and are passionate about what we do every day. It has been an honor to build this company with them, our executive team, and our customers, solving their toughest eCommerce management problems. I look forward to investing more time into the strong partnerships we have built to continue driving new, innovative infrastructure with our product team for our customers.
