What you’ll learn:
Every Cyber Week brings new records in digital commerce, with enterprises driving higher order volumes and stronger revenue year over year. Amid this momentum, brands continue to look for technology that supports — and scales with — their growth.
This season, commercetools customers were equipped with a modern commerce foundation built to handle peak demand with confidence. In 2025, our platform supported more orders than ever, reinforcing its role as a powerful and scalable engine for sustained revenue success.
commercetools performance during Cyber Week:
100% platform uptime across all peak traffic days.
$4.5B in total GMV processed, up 48% year-over-year.
$935M in Black Friday GMV alone.
A total of 31 million orders were processed across the platform during Cyber Week, with peak volume reaching 6,800 orders per minute (or 113.33 orders per second).
This is no small feat, especially as agentic commerce started to take off. With agentic commerce capabilities launched just in time for the holiday rush — Google launched AI shopping with conversational search and agentic checkout, Perplexity released an AI shopping assistant and OpenAI created the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) for transactions on ChatGPT — businesses faced a tremendous surge in traffic that required higher scalability than ever.
The importance of scalability can’t be understated. Indeed, our report, “The State of Commerce: Replatforming and Migration Trends for 2025,” revealed that 79% of eCommerce decision-makers rate scalability as the number one consideration for switching eCommerce platforms. This is one of the reasons why 64% of companies with legacy platforms report that they need to switch platforms within the next year, while 24% say they need to switch immediately, within the next six months.
For enterprises, a scalable infrastructure translates into operational efficiency and, most importantly, increased conversions and revenue streams.
Beyond Cyber Week: Scalability for every season and the agentic era
While we’re proud of the record-breaking performance our customers achieved this Cyber Week, the real story goes far beyond a single shopping event. At commercetools, we’re focused on building year-round scalability — the kind that supports any surge, any season, any market and any customer journey.
Cyber Week may dominate the headlines, but retailers know that demand peaks happen on their own calendars: Back-to-school for some, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day for others, or high-volume drops tied to sports seasons, travel cycles or promotions. With an enterprise-grade commerce platform, our customers scale seamlessly beyond order spikes — including surges in traffic, search volume, personalization requests, content delivery and real-time inventory updates.
In 2026, we believe that enterprises will face an even bigger scalability challenge: The rise of agentic commerce.
Agentic AI systems — from autonomous shopping assistants to AI-driven personalization engines — are poised to generate unprecedented load on commerce platforms. For every AI agent trying to serve customer needs, thousands of automated requests may hit backend systems in seconds: Product specs, inventory levels, pricing checks, shipping timelines, compatibility data, and more. These agents engage in rapid, multi-step interactions that generate massive volumes of API calls and demand real-time data processing.
At the heart of this new reality lies a single truth: Scalability is not only about handling big shopping moments, but also being ready for continuous, intelligence-driven, machine-speed demand.
As we reflect on this exceptional Cyber Week, our focus is firmly on the future. We’re committed to partnering with our customers to build platforms where no peak is too unpredictable, no AI workload is too heavy and no experience is too complex to deliver in real time.
