Our take on commercetools’ evaluation in the Forrester Wave™: Commerce Solutions, Q3 2026

Our take on Forrester’s evaluation — and the key areas we’re streamlining further

No commerce solution provider — or any technology vendor — will offer a perfect solution that meets every prerequisite for every business. Especially in the enterprise market, requirements for commerce can vary widely from one company to another, making the need for flexible platforms paramount.

That being said, we agree with most aspects of Forrester’s evaluation. Businesses with unique requirements that demand flexibility are exactly where commercetools excels. These have long been core strengths of our platform and are a key reason why enterprises with complex commerce needs continue to choose commercetools.

At the same time, we believe the overall market perception that commercetools is best suited for companies with strong internal technical teams is changing quickly. Companies working with modern commerce technologies are no longer the exception, and many developers, engineers and architects have adopted headless, composable tech in the last few years.

At commercetools, we’re also working hard to accelerate this trend in the following ways:

  1. Our newly launched commercetools for Builders enables anyone — marketers, founders, product managers, designers — to scaffold digital storefronts using AI prompts and without coding.
  2. We continue to improve our no-code business tooling, the Merchant Center, enabling business users to manage campaigns, pricing, localization and more, through an intuitive UI.
  3. The upcoming MosAIc, an autonomous layer for commerce operations, will help business users optimize internal operations using conversational AI to manage promotions, pricing, approvals and many other use cases.

Together, these three initiatives will effectively lower the technical barrier and enable companies to accelerate time-to-value for the entire commerce lifecycle, from implementation to daily management.

These developments come at the right time for decision-makers who need low-risk strategies to modernize legacy tech. We believe this is because replatforming is often associated with complex digital transformation projects that last for years and cost a fortune. Fortunately, this is changing, not only through the power of AI but also due to solutions such as those commercetools is bringing to market, which are intended to reduce technology complexity and accelerate time-to-value.

In addition, our newly launched B2B Intake Agent, co-developed with B2B manufacturer Mirion, and AgentSphere, the workbench to build, manage and govern AI agents, enable us to future-proof our offerings for both agentic shopping and autonomous commerce.

It’s also worth noting that we’re strengthening our community engagement through Elevate Exchange, a series of regional meet-ups that bring together peers to exchange ideas, share experiences and discuss best practices. We believe this format better addresses the needs of our global enterprise customer base by creating more opportunities for meaningful, local connections.

In conclusion, we find that the latest Forrester Wave™ evaluation reinforces what has always been at the core of commercetools: Delivering the flexibility enterprises need to build commerce experiences around their unique business requirements. As customer expectations and the commerce landscape evolve, we’re committed to helping businesses modernize with less complexity, lower risk and greater speed to value.
