MACH architecture for the Future of Commerce
When building the future of commerce, it is not wise to rely on outdated models. This is true for all parts of organizations, but surely for technology and infrastructure. Retailers and brands wanting to deliver seamless shopping experiences for their customers – across all devices and touchpoints such as mobile, IoT, conversational commerce and even automotive – need to build on a state-of-the-art infrastructure. For us, this is the MACH architecture!
MACH stands for Microservices, API, Cloud, and Headless:
- Microservices: Small, stand-alone applications that can be individually designed and deployed by dedicated teams. Building a network of these services enables flexible development and shorter release cycles.
- API: This is the glue which ties together two or more applications. APIs exchange data fast and in a structured way. This can be used by companies to integrate different solutions or communicate with smart devices.
- Cloud: Scalable hosting infrastructure provided by businesses such as Amazon, Google, or Microsoft. Instead of running and maintaining their own data centers, customers can access on-demand resources to run their applications.
- Headless: A headless solution comes without a graphical user interface (GUI) such as a standard shop frontend. It focuses purely on background processes and making data available to separate frontend applications.
In combination, these four strategies work together perfectly in the commercetools platform, driving agility and enabling a fast time-to-market – giving brands and retailers supersonic (MACH) speed!
